Sloppy Joe Cornbread Casserole

Ingredients
For the meat filling:
450g (1 pound) of ground beef
One little onion, chopped
One little bell pepper, chopped

Two minced garlic cloves
One cup of tomato sauce
Half a cup of ketchup
Worcestershire sauce (one tablespoon)
One tablespoon of brown sugar
One teaspoon of mustard
Half a teaspoon of salt
Half a teaspoon of black pepper
Optional: ½ tsp chili powder

Regarding the cornbread garnish:

One cup of cornmeal
One cup of all-purpose flour
Baking powder, 1 tablespoon
Half a teaspoon of salt
One cup of milk
¼ cup melted butter and one egg
One cup of cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions

  1. Get the beef filling ready. The ground beef should be cooked in a large skillet over medium heat until browned.
    Add the bell pepper, sliced onion, and minced garlic. Sauté until tender.
    Add the Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, black pepper, salt, and chili powder (if using). After 5 minutes of simmering, turn off the heat.
  2. Get the batter for the cornbread ready: Mix the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt together in a mixing dish.
    Whisk the milk, egg, and melted butter in a another basin.
    After adding the wet components to the dry ingredients, stir just until incorporated. Add the cheddar cheese shreds and fold.
  3. Put the casserole together:
    Turn the oven on to 375°F, or 190°C.
    In a baking dish that has been oiled, evenly distribute the beef mixture.
    Evenly distribute the cornmeal batter after pouring it over the meat mixture.
  4. Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cornbread is golden brown and cooked through.
