Cook Time: 45–50 minutes
Total Time: 50–60 minutes
Servings: 6
Oven Temperature: 350°F (175°C)
Ingredients
Here is everything you need to make this easy macaroni and cheese casserole.
- 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni: The pasta cooks directly in the casserole, absorbing the creamy sauce as it bakes.
- 2 cans (10.5 ounces each) condensed cream of broccoli soup: This provides the creamy base and adds a mild broccoli flavor. Use the condensed soup without diluting it first.
- 2 cups milk: Milk helps create enough liquid for the pasta to cook and gives the sauce a smooth consistency.
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese: Cheddar adds a rich, cheesy flavor and melts beautifully throughout the casserole.
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a suitable baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray to help prevent sticking.
Step 2: Combine the Ingredients
Add the uncooked elbow macaroni to the prepared baking dish. Pour the condensed cream of broccoli soup and milk evenly over the pasta.
Add 1½ cups of the shredded cheddar cheese and stir everything together until the macaroni is coated in the creamy mixture.
Spread the mixture evenly throughout the dish so the pasta cooks as consistently as possible.
Step 3: Cover and Bake
Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven.
Bake for approximately 35 minutes. Keeping the dish covered helps retain moisture and allows the uncooked macaroni to soften in the creamy sauce.
Step 4: Stir and Add More Cheese
Carefully remove the baking dish from the oven and lift the foil, watching out for hot steam.
Stir the macaroni gently to redistribute the sauce and check whether the pasta is becoming tender.
Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
Step 5: Finish Baking
Return the casserole to the oven uncovered for another 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the macaroni is tender.
Because ovens and baking dishes vary, the pasta may need additional time. If the sauce becomes too thick before the macaroni is fully cooked, add a little hot milk or water, stir, cover again, and continue baking until tender.
Make sure the pasta is fully cooked and the casserole is heated throughout before serving.
Step 6: Rest and Serve
Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes. This gives the sauce a little time to settle and makes serving easier.
Spoon the creamy macaroni and cheese into bowls or onto plates and enjoy it while warm!
