Enjoy these delicious Carmelitas! A rich blend of buttery oats, chocolate and caramel sauce, they will be the highlight of any get-together. With only 10 ingredients and 15 minutes of preparation, this will be a crowd favorite!
INGREDIENTS:
Cookie Base:
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 cup rolled oats
• ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
• ½ teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Caramel sauce:
• 36 shellless caramels (Kraft brand)
• ½ cup heavy cream
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper or foil coated with nonstick cooking spray.
- In medium bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, melted butter and vanilla extract with a fork.
- Press a little more than half of the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 10 minutes.4. For the caramel sauce, place the unpeeled caramel and heavy cream in a bowl for 60 seconds, stirring until melted and smooth. Use an egg beater to make the sauce smoother.
- Sprinkle the toasted oat mixture with the chocolate chips, then drizzle the caramel sauce on top.6. Pour remaining oat mixture on top and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool completely before cutting. To cool faster, place the pan in the refrigerator after it cools slightly.Note:
• Use parchment paper or aluminum foil to keep the caramel from sticking.
• Old-fashioned rolled oats have a chewy texture.
• Prepare caramel before starting.
• Consider making caramel sauce on the stovetop.
