since I first published this recipe on the site, thousands of you have tried it and you agree! So today I thought I would put this recipe back online for those of you who are new to the blog and looking for a tried and tested recipe to make this weekend. Having done this dozens of times, I can vouch for the : they will not disappoint.
INGREDIENTS:
4 cups mashed potatoes
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 1⁄2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
A pinch of red pepper
1 cup grated sharp cheddar
1 1⁄2cup grated cheese, to sprinkle
INSTRUCTIONS:
Making Scalloped Potatoes
Melt the butter in a small pan, add the flour and mix.
Let sit for a minute.
Add all the cold milk and mix.
Season with salt and cayenne.
Cook the sauce on low, stirring occasionally, until smooth and cooked through.
Reduce the heat and add the cheese and stir.
Place half of the mashed potatoes in a greased baking dish.
over the potatoes, Pour half the amount of cheese sauce
Repeat with the second half of the potatoes and cheese sauce.
Sprinkle the remaining cheese.
Sprinkle some red pepper powder for color.
Bake for 1 hour at 350°F.

I am confused🤔🤔 The picture seems to show sliced potatoes yet the recipe calls for mashed potatoes. Is it an error? I’ve never ever made them with mashed potatoes and I can’t imagine how it would work.
Yes! I was wondering the same thing!?!? I suppose you could mix the two forms of potato in the same dish for a heartier result!!! Id love to give that a try!
I don’t think I want Scolloped Potato’s made with mashed potatoes !!

Same here …. a bit confused. Must be an error. I’ll do 4 – 5 cups thin sliced potatoes.
