Orange Loaf

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
½ cups chopped walnuts (optional)
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup white sugar
½ cups butter or margarine
2 large egg
½ cup fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
¼ cup white sugar

-Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×5 inch pan. Combine flour, baking powder, nuts and salt in a bowl. Beat 1 cup sugar and butter in a large bowl until smooth; Beat the eggs one by one. Mix 1/2 cup orange juice and orange zest. Pour in flour mixture, and stir transfer into prepared loaf pan.
-Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the bread comes out. Remove the loaf from the oven, but do not remove it from the pan.

-Combine 1/2 cup orange juice and 1/4 cup sugar in a small saucepan. Heat and stir to dissolve the sugar. Spoon glaze over hot loaf. Let the bread sit in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it to cool.

  1. So you don’t nix the orange juice or zest in the cake itself. The recipe is all jumbled together so it’s hard to understand what to do.
